Hello and welcome to Trashlamp.

My name is Louise and I live in North West England with my children and chickens.

One of my main aims in life is to live sustainably. I am very passionate about looking after our planet. I do not like throwing away anything that has the potential to be transformed into something new. For as long as I can remember I have used waste products such as plastic bottles and packaging to create all kinds of weird and wonderful objects. This life-long hobby gradually developed into the creation of unique, geometric, sculptural lighting along with jewelry and other eco items.

Trashlamp is all about utilizing waste items and materials. Before I throw anything away I always check for any useful qualities. I mainly use plastic bottles but I add items such as lids, buttons, Tetra-Pak, off cut fabric scraps, wall paper, wool, threads, etc. Because my own waste doesn’t supply enough materials to keep me going, I also collect plastic bottles from friends, family, neighbours and a very helpful local business.

I studied for a degree in 3D design, experimenting with waste materials as lighting, mainly using recycled plastic. It was only whilst studying for my Master's degree where I really developed my style. I love the whole process of finding the inspiration, having an idea, planning the design, working out the geometry and then building a structure. This then lead onto creating other exciting products such as jewelry, décor and gift items. Recycled plastic is so versatile and durable it lends itself to many purposes. I feel so blessed to be able to create with a material that helps save the planet.
